Nanoyou Lab Experiment C- Student Backgroun Reading (14-18)
EXPERIMENT C illustrates the principle of a colorimetric nanosensor. In this experiment students use a plasmonic colorimetric sensor made of nanoparticles: a gold colloid (containing gold nanoparticles) is the sensing material, and the addition of an analyte (such as salt or sugar) induces a change in the aggregation of the nanoparticles in the colloid, which is reflected in a change in its colour. Similar colloids are used in the development of moder biosensors. This document provides students with some background information on the experiment. The experiment is designed for the 14-18 years age group. This experiment is one of four experiments contained in the NANOYOU Teachers Training Kit of nanoscience and nanotechnologies.
NANOYOU
The NANOYOU project aimed to increase young people’s basic understanding on nanotechnologies (NT) and to engage in the dialogue about its ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA) through a strong school program for students aged 11-18 and a wide range of activities in Science Centres for those aged 18-25
