Nanotechnologies: Where should they take us? Have your say

Moebius Scienza Podcast #4-Nanotechnology in Food Packaging

In this radio broadcast Dr Federico Pedrocchi (scientific editor, journalist and interviewer) , Dr Leandro Lorenzelli (from the Bruno Kessler Foundation (Trento), Head of The Center for Materials and Microsystems research unit, with research interest in lab on chip technology, miniaturized laboratories for in vitro cellular cultures and chips useful for diagnosing disease) and Luisa Filipponi (NANOCHANNELS scientific consultant) talk about the application of nanotechnology to the food sector. There are two ways in which nanotechnology may intervene in the food industry: it can intervene directly inside the food, for example to modify certain characteristics of nutrients; the other way is for food preservation. The technology and associated risks are different in those two cases, and this discussion focuses on the application of nanotechnology in food packaging.  This radio broadcast is one of a series of broadcasts aired by the scientific program Moebius Scienza of Radio24 during the NANOCHANNELS project.

The project used different communication channels (media, radio, social media etc.) to inform and engage the general public and different key stakeholders (like NGOs and industry) in the debating about the risks and social implications of nanotechnologies. Students were also involved both in the product of content and in debate through several school debates that were conducted in various locations around Europe.
